The Observer Behind the Mind

If you've worked through the guide, you've already encountered a simple but powerful idea:

You can observe your thoughts.

At first this may seem obvious.
Of course we can notice what we are thinking.

But if you stay with the idea for a moment, it begins to reveal something deeper.

If a thought can be observed, then perhaps the thought is not the deepest part of who you are.

You’ll agree with that, I think.

Now, because you responded to my ad, I believe you’ll understand what I’m about to say.

For much of my life, I was completely identified with the activity of my mind.

So identified that I struggled with depression, meaninglessness, and negative thinking.

They were years of darkness.

So dark, life seemed empty.

Are you with me?

The ideas you are about to explore emerged from these experiences.
They helped transform my life and eventually became the foundation of this course.

When fear appeared, I felt fearful.
When self-doubt appeared, I felt diminished.
When negative thoughts arose, I often accepted them as truth.

I didn't realise there was another possibility.

The simple act of observing began to create a small space between awareness and thought.

Within that space, something started to change.

The mind was still active.
Thoughts still came and went.
Emotions still rose and fell.

But I was beginning to recognise that I was not every thought or feeling that appeared within my awareness.

This raises an interesting question.

If we are not our thoughts, how much of our experience of life is shaped by the way we interpret what happens around us?

Or even within us – what our unconscious mind tells us?

Two people can experience the same event and come away with completely different conclusions.
One person sees only loss while another discovers growth.
One finds meaning but another sees only difficulty.

The external circumstances may be similar, yet the experience is very different.

Modern psychology tells us that the mind doesn’t simply receive information from the world.
It interprets, organises, filters, and gives meaning to what it receives.

In other words, we do not experience reality in a purely objective way.

We experience reality through the lens of our perceptions, beliefs, memories, expectations, and emotional patterns.

Most of these filters operate automatically.

We rarely notice them because we have lived with them for so long.

This is one reason why self-awareness can be so transformative.

The more clearly we observe the activity of the mind, the more we begin to recognise these filters.
We see how old fears color present situations.
We notice how assumptions shape our expectations.

We begin to understand how much of our suffering comes not from events themselves, but from the meanings we unconsciously attach to them.

And as this understanding grows, another discovery often follows.

There is something within us that remains present while thoughts, emotions, and experiences continually change.

Thoughts change.

Beliefs change.

Moods change.

Life circumstances change.

Yet the capacity to be aware remains.

Many philosophical and spiritual traditions have pointed toward this deeper dimension of experience.
They describe a form of awareness that exists prior to the stories we tell about ourselves.

Not the personality.

Not the roles we play.

Not the labels we carry.

But the simple fact of being aware.

Some traditions call this umbrella awareness ‘consciousness’.

Most of us catch only brief glimpses of this.

Perhaps during a moment of stillness.

Perhaps while watching a sunset.

Perhaps in meditation, prayer, contemplation, or a quiet moment when the mind temporarily settles.

For a few seconds, there is simply awareness itself.

No struggle.

No need to become someone else.

Just presence.

Consciousness.

Yet the mind quickly returns with its familiar stories and concerns, and the moment passes.

THE QUESTION REMAINS

Who is the one noticing all of this?

What is it that observes your thoughts?

What is it that witnesses your emotions?

What is it that remains present throughout the changing experiences of your life?

These questions have fascinated philosophers, mystics, scientists, and seekers for thousands of years.

They have also become central to my own exploration of consciousness.

The more I investigated them, the more I realized that understanding the mind is only the beginning.

Beyond the mind lies a deeper exploration of awareness, identity, meaning, and our relationship to the larger reality of which we are a part.

This journey has profoundly changed the way I experience life.

A PERSONAL DISCOVERY

As I told you, there was a period in my life when I lived under a heavy cloud of negativity.

For years I struggled with depression and a deep sense that something essential was missing.

At my lowest point, there were days when I could hardly get out of a chair.

Like many people, I assumed my thoughts were telling me the truth.

When the mind said life was hopeless, I believed it.

When the mind said nothing would change, I accepted it.

What slowly began to change was not my circumstances.

It was my relationship to my own mind.

The simple recognition that I could observe my thoughts rather than automatically ‘become’ them created a small but important space.

Within that space I discovered something unexpected.

Thoughts were continually changing.

Emotions were fleeting and confusing.

Life circumstances were changing too.
Challenges are unremitting.

But awareness itself remained.
Consciousness.

As that understanding deepened, I found greater peace, greater clarity, and a renewed sense of meaning.

I became less reactive.

The future no longer seemed threatening.

I stopped measuring my worth by the thoughts passing through my mind.

Life began to feel like something to participate in rather than something to endure.

Life did not become perfect, but it became profoundly different.

The struggles that once seemed overwhelming no longer defined my identity.

The negative inner dialogue that had dominated my life for years gradually lost its power over me.

This didn’t happen overnight, but little by little I discovered that I no longer had to obey every thought my mind produced.

I no longer believed the dark thoughts that sometimes emerged from my mind.
I had become their observer.

The questions that once troubled me became invitations to explore more deeply.

That discovery led me into decades of study, reflection, and exploration of psychology, philosophy, spirituality, quantum science, and consciousness.

I spent forty years in voluntary counselling, mentoring, and life coaching of many people.

People who undertake the course I’ve created will explore these questions in much greater depth, combining insights from psychology, quantum science, philosophy, consciousness studies, and contemplative traditions.

This enriching experience sets them on a journey of self-discovery and growth.

The goal is not simply to learn new ideas or to acquire knowledge.

It is to discover whether a deeper understanding of consciousness can transform the way we experience ourselves, our relationships, and our lives.

If these questions resonate with you,
I invite you to continue reading.

THE DISCOVERY THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING

WHY I CREATED
‘QUANTUM MIND & CONSCIOUSNESS’

The discovery that I was not my thoughts changed the direction of my life.

I now knew I was not my feelings.

What began as a personal search for understanding eventually became decades of study and exploration of consciousness.

Over time I came to realize that many people struggle with the same challenges I once faced.

They feel trapped by negative thinking.

Disconnected from meaning.

Uncertain of who they really are beneath the constant activity of the mind.

Knowing this, I wanted to bring together the ideas, practices, and insights that helped transform my own experience of life.

This course is designed to help you move from living unconsciously through conditioned thoughts and reactions to living with greater awareness, clarity, purpose, and connection to the deeper dimensions of your own consciousness.

But if something within you recognizes the value of these ideas, perhaps now is the time to take the next step.

I’m able to help because I’ve been where you are and I’m restored.

The principles explored in this course played a leading role in my own recovery and transformation.

Along the way, I became accredited to administer and interpret the Myers–Briggs Type Indicator and the Singer–Loomis Inventory of Personality, tools that have enriched my work with many people seeking greater understanding of themselves and their lives.

While these qualifications have been valuable, the foundation of this course is not theory alone.
It is grounded in lived experience, personal transformation, and many years of helping others navigate questions of meaning, identity, purpose, and growth.

Of all my credentials, I rely most heavily on my authenticity and personal experience.

HOW IT WORKS

The course comprises two platforms.

The first is a series of fourteen focused video lessons, with reflective questions.

Not just as information but as embodiment.

This program bridges the gap between intellectual knowing and lived expression.

As you move further into the course, you’re introduced to a broader and deeper way of understanding the mind and consciousness.

One theory you’ll be invited to consider is that consciousness does not arise in isolation.

That the mind may participate in a wider field of information and potential – rather than being limited to the brain alone.

You’ll explore this perspective carefully.

The second platform holds five comprehensive PDF mini-courses, all filled with wisdom you can apply to your life, all with exercises to reinforce your learning and growth in wholeness.

YOU DON’T NEED PRIOR KNOWLEDGE

Only a willingness to look at your experience directly.

  • Your openness to understanding

  • Your openness to exploring the space that emerges

  • Your openness to a revelation of what has always been present within you

  • Your openness to new frontiers of possibilities and potentialities that will enrich your life.

More than that, your willingness to embrace transformation of your self-understanding and identity

  • Your willingness to align your thinking with sound principles and values

If you commit to embracing this wisdom, you’ll find:

  • Your knowledge becoming ‘knowing’ – that deep embodiment and ownership

  • Your identity separating from your thought-loops

  • Your thinking aligning with sound principles and values

  • Your life transforming meaningfully

You’ll have a new worldview!

Many people find that changes in awareness gradually become visible in their relationships and daily life.

RECOMMENDATION

A statement by internationally renowned educator
Dr Kevin Treston about the course.

"The comprehensive and highly relevant program
'Quantum Mind & Consciousness'
by Les Savage is truly amazing."

“Some people struggle to find any meaning in day-to-day living, which may seem devoid of any significant purpose in an apparently sterile universe.

‘Who am I?’

‘How do I find meaning in my life now?’

‘What is my identity in the web of relationships in a cosmic world?’

These are questions which challenge our quest for life coherence and deep purpose.

How might these questions be addressed?

Are there resources and approaches which might assist and empower a person to transform an apparent life of sterility or inertia into a life with meaning, spirituality, and generativity?

The comprehensive and highly relevant program ‘Quantum Mind & Consciousness’ by Les Savage is such a resource.

The expanse of this resource in its depth and access to contemporary life journey resources is truly amazing, and full credit to Les for not only initiating the participants to such resources, but orientating the person to reflective and enriching life-changing experiences.

Participants in the process will be in awe at the abundance of focused videos and directed texts.

I highly recommend ‘Quantum Mind & Consciousness’ for those who choose to deepen their life paths to wholeness and spiritual oneness.

Thank you, Les Savage, for giving us such a valuable resource.”
